Thelma and Louise of The Writing World
57I have this partner in crime. Not crime exactly, but almost. She is a dear friend who is also a writer. We put our heads together and come up all sorts of ideas to improve as writers and how to grow our freelance writing business.
I am not sure which one of us is Thelma and which one is Louise. I don't know if she knows either. Thelma had her head on straight and Louise didn't know where her head was. I prefer to think that we change roles as the situation dictates. Secretly, I am beginning to think I am Louise. My friend has got it together when it comes to her writing career. I did a long time ago, but I am now a mom and that takes up most of my time.
My friend is quite computer savvy. I do not have a clue how that machine works. I can barely check my email without problems. She guides me around the internet world, keeping me from floundering in a sea of dot coms and URLs. She has even set up a blog for me. I couldn't do it. Can you believe that? I can't even set up a blog. Thanks to her, though, my name is getting out there.
I am the promoter of the two of us. I come up with ideas how to get our names out there so people can read our "stuff." I pass my ideas to her and she gets them on the internet. I don't know how, but she does it. She sends me an email and explains what she has done to implement my latest idea. I shoot a reply back, a cyber world smile and nod. No clue what she has done, but thankful she did it.
We are very supportive of each other. I don't know if we would drive off a cliff together or not. It is doubtful; we both do not believe in suicide. She listens to me complain about everything and I congratulate her each time she sees her name in print. It doesn't get much better than that. I have her convinced her mailbox (both in the real world and the cyber world) if full of acceptance letters. She almost has me convinced the writing world is not out to get me.
Writers are highly competitive, yet we don't compete with each other. We both want each other to succeed. She has her areas of expertise and I have mine. Thankfully, those areas are quite different. Don't tell her, but I would hate to go head to head with her in a direct competition. She is that good.
This Thelma and Louise of the writing world have many other things in common besides writing. We are both conservatives. We think Obama is an idiot. We aren't to crazy about John McCain, but know he is the lesser of the two evils. We both have young children in our lives. Those children tend to drive us nuts as we write, but we love them dearly and are glad they are around to provide some comic relief and drama to our lives.
The unfortunate part of our relationship is that we have never met. We started out as "email buddies" and that has blossomed into a true friendship. We have never met and plans to do so are put on hold. She and I are both tethered to our computers, making the most of our writing careers. I am hoping she isn't some tattooed biker guy instead of the sweet woman I have come to call friend. You never can tell in the computer generation we live in. That is highly unlikely, though. She doesn't write like a biker guy.
A word of warning...
If you see two women in a convertible driving down the highway, both of them with typing away on laptops with a trail of magazine queries behind them, you will know it is us. Kindly give us a honk and a wave as you quickly get out of our way. We are headed to Writer's Paradise and nothing is stopping us. We will make one way or the other. And, we will do it together.

Trust me, I am not a biker! Ii can't even figure out the gears on my 3-speed! And give yourself credit; at least half the ideas are yours. You nailed our friendship and I'm not sure who is who, but it is fun changing roles.
If we went head to head, I would definately lose!
